Bulgarian art smuggling probe uncovers $54 million Jackson Pollock painting.

Bulgarian officials discovered a previously unknown painting by Jackson Pollock, estimated to be worth $54 million, during an investigation into an international art smuggling scheme. The painting, believed to be an original uncatalogued piece from 1949, was signed by the late American artist. Pollock was a part of the Abstract Expressionism art movement during the late 1940s and revolutionized the form with his “drip and splash” method of painting. One Bulgarian citizen and three Greek citizens were arrested in connection with the investigation, and five paintings from other prominent artists were confiscated from Greece during the raids.
