3-year Kennedy Expressway construction project to cause major traffic disruptions in Chicago

A three-year construction project on the Kennedy Expressway in Chicago begins on Monday night, costing an estimated $150m. The project will affect drivers in a major way, with the two left lanes of the inbound side of the expressway closed for the entire 7.5-mile stretch. The express lanes will no longer open outbound, only inbound, during the entire first phase of the project, which means no relief for those outbound drivers leaving downtown. The Illinois Department of Transportation suggests leaving home earlier or staggering drive times, otherwise CTA and Metra might be a good option.
