Tech Giants Unite in Industrywide AI Alliance to Challenge Dominant Players and Shape Future of AI

IBM, Meta, and over 50 other companies, universities, and foundations have formed an "AI Alliance" to challenge the perceived dominance of OpenAI, Microsoft, Google, and Amazon in the field of artificial intelligence. The alliance aims to promote open-source models, common frameworks for evaluating AI algorithms, and collaboration on AI research. IBM has committed $100 million to support AI research projects at universities and has worked with Meta to develop an open-source toolkit for AI development. The governance structure of the alliance is still being worked out, with the possibility of forming an external nonprofit organization.
