Meta Platforms plans to deploy a new version of its custom chip, "Artemis," in its data centers this year to support its AI push, aiming to reduce dependence on Nvidia chips and control costs associated with running AI workloads. The chip, designed for inference, could potentially save the company hundreds of millions of dollars in annual energy costs and billions in chip purchasing costs. Meta also plans to have roughly 350,000 flagship "H100" processors from Nvidia by the end of the year, accumulating the equivalent compute capacity of 600,000 H100s in total.
