EU calls for labeling of AI-generated content by Google and Facebook.

The European Commission is urging tech companies like Google, Facebook, and TikTok to start labeling content created by artificial intelligence to combat disinformation online. The Commission wants companies to make it easier for people to distinguish facts from fiction by recognizing and clearly labeling AI-generated disinformation. The Digital Services Act requires very large online platforms and search engines to identify deep fakes with "prominent markings" as soon as August 25 or face multimillion-euro fines. The European Parliament is pushing for a similar rule to apply to all companies generating AI content, including text, as part of the Artificial Intelligence Act.
