Major Cocaine Bust at Hong Kong Airport: Over HK$14 Million Worth of Drugs Seized

Hong Kong customs officials discovered 11kg of suspected cocaine, worth an estimated $1.5m, hidden in the cushions of an electric wheelchair at the Hong Kong International Airport. The 51-year-old man, who arrived from Sint Maarten via Paris, has been arrested and could face life in prison if found guilty of drug trafficking. The wheelchair was one of his checked baggage items, and further examination revealed that the seat cushion and backrest had been re-stitched. This incident has prompted customs officials to increase checks on visitors from high-risk regions to combat transnational drug trafficking activities.
