Walmart is raising the starting base pay for store managers and redesigning its bonus plan to emphasize profits. The new starting annual base wage ranges for store managers will be from $90,000 to $170,000, with profits playing a bigger role in calculating annual bonuses. The move aims to retain qualified managers and show hourly workers a path for upward mobility in a competitive labor market. Additionally, average wages for hourly workers will exceed $18, up from $17.50, due to the introduction of higher-paying roles.
