San Francisco's Anchor Brewing Company, the country's first craft brewery established in 1896, is shutting down after 127 years due to challenging economic factors and declining sales since 2016. The impacts of the pandemic, inflation, and a highly competitive market left the company with no choice but to cease operations. Employees have been given notice and will receive transition support and separation packages. The brewery's assets will be put up for sale, and the taproom will continue operating until at least August 1.
