Kei trucks, tiny Japanese trucks that cost as little as $5,000, are gaining popularity in the US, particularly among farmers, surfers, and hunters. Japan Car Direct, one of several companies exporting Kei trucks to the US, says they account for about a third of its orders. However, buyers need to be aware of certain restrictions, particularly for more recent models, which face Department of Transportation and Environmental Protection Agency restrictions and are typically limited to 25 mph depending on the state.
