Deadly Attacks by Boko Haram Leave Dozens Dead in Nigeria
Boko Haram militants launched two separate attacks in Yobe state, northeastern Nigeria, killing at least 37 villagers. The first attack occurred when gunmen opened fire on villagers, killing 17. The following day, 20 villagers were killed when their vehicle drove into a landmine. The extremist group has been waging a 14-year insurgency in the region, resulting in the deaths of over 35,000 people and the displacement of more than 2 million. President Bola Tinubu has yet to effectively address the security crises in the country. The Yobe state government has called for an emergency security meeting to address the attacks.
