Wilde Bets on Indie Craft for Sundance Comedy The Invite
Olivia Wilde opted for an indie, workshop-driven approach for her Sundance comedy The Invite, planning weeks of development with Rashida Jones and Will McCormack and shooting sequentially to keep the story flexible. The film, a remake of Sentimental, stars Wilde with Seth Rogen, Edward Norton and Penélope Cruz in a largely single-location setup, and was produced outside the studio system with Megan Ellison’s backing and Esther Perel as a consultant to explore mature relationships. Sundance will showcase the ensemble as they pursue distribution, with Cruz unable to attend due to filming in Spain.
