Catholic All-Girls College Faces Backlash, Reverses Transgender Admissions Policy

Saint Mary's College, a Catholic all-girls college in Indiana, has reversed its decision to allow men who identify as transgender women to enroll at the institution. The college faced significant backlash from the community and alumnae, who felt that the policy was a dilution of the college's mission and Catholic identity. The college president acknowledged the concerns and apologized for unintentionally creating division. Wellesley College Votes to Admit Trans Men and Nonbinary Applicants.

Students at Wellesley College, a women's liberal arts college in Massachusetts, have voted in favor of allowing transgender men and non-binary individuals who were assigned male at birth to enroll. The college currently accepts applications from people who "consistently identify and live as women," including cis, transgender, and nonbinary students. The vote is nonbinding, but the college plans to implement structural changes to support enrolled transgender students, including appointing a new director for the Office of LGBTQ+ Programs and Services and expanding all-gender bathrooms. Other women's colleges, including Smith College, Barnard College, and Bryn Mawr College, have already expanded their admissions to include transgender and nonbinary individuals.
