Women of color shatter hip-hop streetwear barriers.
Female designers like April Walker and Kimora Lee Simmons broke barriers in the hip-hop fashion industry by creating successful streetwear brands like Walker Wear and Baby Phat, respectively. These brands provided affordable and inclusive fashion for women of all colors, shapes, and sizes. Despite facing challenges as women of color in the industry, these designers continue to empower their community and inspire the next generation of creatives. The fashion industry still has work to do in terms of inclusivity, but initiatives like the Black in Fashion Council are working towards creating a more equitable work environment for Black people in the industry.
