Mistrial Declared in Weymouth Murder Trial of Emanuel Lopes
A mistrial has been declared in the trial of Emanuel Lopes, who was charged with killing Weymouth Police Officer Michael Chesna and bystander Vera Adams in 2018. The jury could not reach a unanimous decision on whether Lopes is a murderer or mentally ill. Lopes, who faced 11 charges, including two life sentences, was hoping for a verdict of not guilty by reason of insanity. A new trial with a new jury will begin on July 21.
