Charges dropped in Chicago shooting involving mother and son.

The Cook County State's Attorney's Office has dropped first-degree murder charges against a 35-year-old woman and her 14-year-old son in connection with a fatal shooting at a West Pullman hot dog stand. The shooting occurred last Sunday and was captured on surveillance video. The woman had also faced a felony count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Anti-violence groups have been responding to a recent uptick in shootings in the West Pullman neighborhood.

Tragedy Strikes as Firefighter Loses Life in Chicago Blaze

A firefighter, Jermaine Pelt, was killed and another was slightly injured while working to put out an extra-alarm fire in the West Pullman neighborhood of Chicago. The blaze eventually spread to three buildings. Pelt, who joined the Chicago Fire Department in 2005, was pronounced dead at the hospital. Two adults and two children were displaced in the house fire. The cause of the fire is yet to be determined.

Chicago firefighter dies after battling house fire.

Chicago firefighter Jermaine Pelt died and two others were injured in an extra-alarm fire in the West Pullman neighborhood. The fire broke out in the attic of a home and spread to two adjacent homes. Pelt was working a hose line when conditions worsened and all firefighters were ordered out. He was transported to Advocate Christ Hospital, where he later died. Pelt served with CFD since 2005 and has two children.
