Brooklyn's Juneteenth Festival: History, Music, and Celebration
The Black-Owned Brooklyn Juneteenth Food Festival at the Weeksville Heritage Center in Brooklyn brought together 28 Black food vendors and a community of people passionate about delicious dishes and their history. The festival celebrated Juneteenth, the emancipation of enslaved African Americans, and Weeksville, a town of free Black people founded in 1827. The event fostered a sense of community at a time when many Black families have been leaving New York City.
