Sega Abandons Blockchain Gaming, Citing Boredom
Sega is withholding its major IP, such as Sonic the Hedgehog, from third-party blockchain games, dismissing them as "boring" and lacking fun. However, Sega will still allow the use of characters from lesser-known franchises as NFTs and sees potential in blockchain technology for transferring characters and items between different games. While Sega is currently pausing its own blockchain gaming projects, it remains open to using the technology in the future. Other companies, including Square Enix and Ubisoft, have also shown interest in blockchain gaming but have faced mixed reactions from gamers.
