Rapid Increase in Homelessness Hits Wealthy LA Neighborhoods
The number of homeless people in Los Angeles' wealthiest neighborhoods, including Beverly Hills and Brentwood, has jumped by 45% year-over-year. The region known as "Service Planning Area 5" saw a significant increase in homelessness, with the count rising from 4,604 to 6,669 in just 12 months. Despite having higher median incomes, residents have been complaining about the rise in homelessness. In response, a motion has been introduced to invest $500,000 in an RV Rehousing Pilot Program to provide support services and pathways to permanent housing for RV dwellers.
