
"Mississippi's 'Goon Squad' Officers Sentenced for Torture of Black Men"
Six former Mississippi law enforcement officers, known as the "Goon Squad," were sentenced in state court for the torture and abuse of two Black men. The officers received additional prison sentences ranging from 15 to 45 years, to run concurrently with their federal sentences. Victims' attorney Malik Shabazz expressed some disappointment with the sentences but acknowledged the significance of the court's decision. One of the victims, Eddie Parker, shared a statement expressing the trauma and impact of the abuse, while family members of the defendants were present in the courtroom during the sentencing.
