Climate Activists Vandalize Famous Painting at National Gallery in London
Climate activists from the group Just Stop Oil attacked Diego Velázquez's masterpiece "The Rokeby Venus" at the National Gallery in London. The painting, which depicts the Roman goddess Venus, was targeted as a protest against new oil and gas licenses in the UK. Two individuals struck the artwork with emergency rescue hammers, leading to their arrest and the removal of the painting for examination by conservators. This is not the first time the painting has been attacked, as it was famously vandalized by a suffragette in 1914.
