Texas Vehicle Inspections End January 2025: Key Changes Ahead

Starting January 1, 2024, Texas drivers of non-commercial vehicles will no longer need annual state inspections for registration, but emissions tests will still be required in certain populous counties. House Bill 3297, passed in 2023, also introduces a $7.50 inspection program replacement fee to be paid during registration. The Texas Department of Transportation has released public service announcements to inform residents about these changes.

Texas to End Mandatory Vehicle Safety Inspections Next Month

Starting January 1, 2025, Texas will eliminate mandatory annual vehicle safety inspections for non-commercial vehicles, following a law signed by Governor Greg Abbott. While this change will save time for drivers, it will not reduce costs, as a $7.50 inspection program replacement fee will be added to the annual vehicle registration. Commercial vehicles and those in 17 counties requiring emissions tests will still need inspections.

"Massive Honda Recall: 124K Cars at Risk of Brake Failure"

Honda is recalling 124,077 vehicles, including popular models such as Civics and Pilots, due to a brake issue that could result in a loss of function. A loose fastener on the brake booster assembly is the cause, increasing the risk of a crash. Owners will have their vehicles inspected and repaired for free, with letters scheduled to be sent out on August 7, 2023. Honda had previously recalled 1.2 million vehicles in June for a rear camera issue.
