"DNA Evidence from Cigarette Butt and Styrofoam Cup Leads to Arrest in 2012 Pennsylvania Cold Case Murder"
Vallis Slaughter, 39, was arrested in connection with the 2012 fatal shooting of Julio Torres in Pennsylvania, after DNA from a discarded cigarette butt and a bitten-off piece of a styrofoam cup led investigators to him. Slaughter faces charges including first-degree murder, aggravated assault, and conspiracy. The case was reexamined last year, leading to the identification of Slaughter through facial recognition software. He is also suspected in a homicide in Brooklyn and is awaiting extradition to Pennsylvania.
