Federal Judge Halts Removal of Razor Wire Along Rio Grande
A federal judge has ordered US border authorities to cease cutting through the razor wire installed by the state of Texas to discourage unlawful immigration. The order will remain in effect pending the outcome of a hearing next week. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton had filed a lawsuit seeking to prohibit the practice altogether. The judge found that Texas had met the required four-part test for a temporary halt to the federal government's action. The Department of Homeland Security, named as the defendant in the lawsuit, has not responded. The order allows for the wire to be severed and removed in case of a medical emergency.
