Rev. Lewis Stewart, the president emeritus of United Christian Leadership Ministry, has passed away at the age of 77 after battling cancer. Known for his lifelong dedication to social justice and criminal justice reform, Stewart retired as president of United Christian Leadership last November. Services will be held at First Church of God on Clarissa Street.
Rev. Lewis Stewart, a lifelong advocate of social justice and president emeritus of United Christian Leadership Ministry (UCLM), passed away at his home in Rochester. He dedicated his life to eradicating social, economic, and racial inequities, advocating for prison reform, and driving criminal justice reform. Under his leadership, UCLM achieved significant milestones, including the implementation of body-worn cameras by law enforcement, annual police community summits, civilian review of police misconduct, and the establishment of community programs to address gun violence. Rev. Stewart's legacy as a champion for social justice will be remembered.
