Shohei Ohtani's Season Ends with Elbow Procedure in Focus

Shohei Ohtani, the Los Angeles Angels' two-way star, will undergo a procedure to treat his torn ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) in his right elbow, ending his season as a hitter. Ohtani plans to be ready to hit at the start of the 2024 season but any invasive procedure would likely rule him out as a pitcher next year. The Angels' general manager expressed hope that Ohtani will re-sign with the team as a free agent, praising his exceptional performance and dedication. Ohtani's three-year stretch as a hitter and pitcher has been one of the most impressive in baseball history, but the Angels have struggled to be competitive during his tenure.

Brock Purdy progressing well in 49ers' offseason program.

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy is 35 days post-surgery after undergoing a repair on the torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow. He said his rehab is going as planned and he is taking it day by day. Purdy will continue his rehab and participate in the meeting room during the offseason program next week. His injury did not require reconstruction, which would have kept him out into the season. Purdy sought advice from baseball pitchers who have undergone the surgery as well as former 49ers quarterback Nick Mullens.
