Mattel's Hollywood Plans: 'Barney,' 'Polly Pocket,' and 'Barbie' Sequels in the Works
Mattel, the toy company behind Barbie, is expanding its presence in Hollywood with plans for multiple film adaptations of its popular toy properties. With the success of the recent "Barbie" movie, Mattel is looking to create a cinematic universe and has 14 properties in active development, including "Barney," "Polly Pocket," "Thomas and Friends," and "American Girl." The company is also considering sequels for "Barbie" and hopes to create film franchises. Other projects in the works include "Hot Wheels" produced by JJ Abrams, a live-action "Barney" film, and a family comedy based on the world of "American Girl" dolls.
