Italy is racing to prevent the leaning Torre Garisenda in Bologna from collapsing by deploying equipment used to stabilize the Tower of Pisa. The 12th-century tower, which leans at a four-degree angle, is at high risk of collapsing, prompting a 19 million euro operation to secure it. The plan involves adapting steel pylons and cables from the Tower of Pisa, followed by masonry consolidation and tightening of cables to decrease stress levels at the tower's base. The preservation effort aims to safeguard the iconic tower, a tourist attraction mentioned in Dante Alighieri's "Divine Comedy," and allow the neighboring Asinelli Tower to reopen to the public.
