Hoka has updated its Tecton X trail shoe with an improved upper and gusseted tongue, while retaining its carbon fiber plates and high-rebound foam midsole. The new Matryx upper is lighter, more breathable, and water-resistant, with reinforced Kevlar threads. The toe box is narrower and more precise, making it better for technical terrain. The Vibram Megagrip lugs offer dependable grip, and the shoe is light enough for a 15-mile trail loop and substantial enough for a 100-miler. However, the steep price may be a deterrent for some.
