Meta plans to use data from user interactions with its AI products to sell targeted ads across Facebook and Instagram, updating its privacy policy to include conversations with AI chatbots and other AI features, except in regions with strict privacy laws. Users cannot opt out, and sensitive topics will not be used for ad targeting.
Meta Platforms Inc. is planning to allow European users of Facebook and Instagram to opt out of certain highly personalized ads as part of plans to limit the impact of a European Union privacy order. Beginning Wednesday, EU users can choose a version of its services that would only target them with ads based on broad categories, such as their age range and general location, without using data such as what videos they watch or content they click on inside Meta’s apps.
Amazon collects large amounts of data on its users, but users can minimize or prevent data collection by adjusting privacy settings. Users can opt out of Amazon's targeted ads, limit Alexa data collection, minimize Amazon device data collection, and hide browsing history. It's worth taking a minute to adjust privacy settings to put some limits on Amazon's vast data collection apparatus.
