Fashion Revolutionary Mary Quant Passes Away at 93.
Mary Quant, the fashion designer who popularized the miniskirt and transformed women's fashion in the Swinging '60s, has died at the age of 93. She offered young women a new, more liberated way of dressing, free from the girdles and restrictive undergarments of previous generations. Quant's designs included tights in a rainbow of colors, short "mini" skirts, HotPants, and flat shoes. She also developed a license-heavy lifestyle brand that included lingerie, tights, footwear, accessories, costume jewelry, color cosmetics, interior designs, and a Daisy toy doll range meant to rival Barbie.
