Former Kentucky Swimmer Alleges University Complicity in Coach's Sexual Abuse
Former Kentucky swim team captain Briggs Alexander alleges that he was "vigorously discouraged" from reporting former coach Lars Jorgensen's sexual abuse, and is one of two former team members suing Jorgensen, Kentucky, and others for enabling a sexually hostile environment. Reports of Jorgensen's inappropriate relationships and misconduct date back to his time at the University of Toledo, and despite multiple warnings, Kentucky's response to the allegations was marked "not urgent" and later deemed "closed." Alexander, who transitioned while serving as an assistant coach, detailed instances of rape and abuse by Jorgensen and expressed feeling betrayed by the school's lack of support. Kentucky has not released an institutional response, and Jorgensen denies the allegations.
