"Belen Officials Confirm First Use of Baby Box with Infant Surrender"
An infant was safely surrendered at a metro baby box at the Belen Fire Department in New Mexico, marking the 41st baby in the program's history and the third baby surrendered this year. The baby, under 45 days old, was rescued within two minutes, given a check-up, and taken to the hospital in accordance with the Safe Haven Act. The founder of Safe Haven Baby Boxes expressed gratitude to the parent and mentioned that CYFD is seeking parents for the child. The installation of safe haven boxes across the state was funded by Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham two years ago, with five boxes currently in place and more expected to be installed.
