NYC Shuts Down Parking Garages After Deadly Collapse and Secondary Collapse Reported.
Four parking garages in New York City have been ordered to immediately close due to structural defects that pose an immediate threat to public safety. Inspections were launched after a deadly collapse of a parking structure in lower Manhattan. The city has mandated that parking structures be inspected by owners at least once every six years. The collapsed structure had not yet completed its required inspection. The four buildings can’t reopen until repairs are made and pass inspection.
