Landlord backs claim that tenant did not win $2B Powerball jackpot.

A former tenant of Edwin Castro, the official winner of the $2.4 billion Powerball prize, claims he showed the winning ticket to his landlord, Urachi “Reggie” Romero, before the drawing and explained why he chose each number. The tenant, Jose Rivera, has sued Castro and Romero, claiming they stole the valuable ticket from him. Romero denies stealing the ticket and has no ties to Castro. California Lottery officials said they are confident Castro is the rightful winner. Rivera claims Romero “stole” the ticket and “refused” to return it. Castro’s attorneys said there are no facts as to how he came into possession of the winning ticket from Romero.

Powerball Winner Edwin Castro Faces Lawsuit Over Allegedly Stolen Ticket

Powerball winner Edwin Castro has responded to a lawsuit seeking his bounty by stating that the filing failed to connect him to the allegedly stolen winning ticket. Castro's attorney also claims that his client was not properly served legal papers in the case of Jose Rivera, the man suing for the winnings. Rivera argues that he is the rightful owner of the $2.04 billion jackpot and bought the winning ticket from Joe's Service Station in Altadena. Castro, who received a $997.6 million lump sum payout, is also seeking to quash the notion he was served the lawsuit filed by Jorge Rivera. A hearing regarding the lawsuit is scheduled for July.

$2B Powerball Winner Sued Over Alleged Stolen Ticket

A man named Jose Rivera is suing Edwin Castro, the winner of California's record $2.04 billion Powerball jackpot, claiming that the ticket was stolen from him before the winning numbers were revealed. Rivera alleges that a man named Urachi F. Romero stole the ticket from him and refused to return it. The complaint was filed against Castro, the California State Lottery Commission, the state of California, and Romero. Castro's attorney filed a motion to quash service of summons, stating that the summons was issued to Edwin H. Castro, the father of the actual Powerball winner. A hearing is set for July 19 on that motion.
