Julian Alaphilippe won stage 2 of the Critérium du Dauphiné with a perfectly timed sprint, his second win of the year. Richard Carapaz came in second, snatching six seconds in time bonuses, while Natnael Tesfatsion finished third. Overnight leader Christophe Laporte retained the leader's jersey, tied with his compatriot. Steven Kruijswijk crashed out early, leaving Jumbo-Visma with only six riders remaining in the race.
