A 17-year-old Redmond High School student drowned at Steelhead Falls on the Deschutes River on Saturday. The teen became caught in the swift undertow of the falls while swimming and bystanders were unable to rescue him due to the fast-moving current. After an hours-long search, divers located the victim’s body underwater.
A 17-year-old Redmond teen drowned at Steelhead Falls on Saturday afternoon when he swam toward the falls and got caught in its swift undertow. The teen, a junior at Ridgeview High School, was unable to be rescued by bystanders due to the swift, fast-moving down-pressure of the falls. Rescue crews worked in the area, searching for the teen and were able to locate his body about 40 yards downriver from the falls.
