Scott McLaughlin claimed pole for the Grand Prix of St. Petersburg with a late 1m00.5426s lap around the 1.8-mile street circuit, beating Marcus Ericsson by 0.0195s; Dennis Hauger’s strong run for Dale Coyne Racing left him third, with Palou fourth and Malukas fifth. Grosjean advanced sixth after a penalty cost him part of his best lap. The Round of 12 and Q3 produced several upsets as Newgarden ended 23rd, setting the stage for Sunday's race.

St. Pete's Skyway Marina District sees surge in apartment development.

Local real estate developers have proposed an 8-story, 97-unit apartment building with zero parking on the east side of the Grand Central District in St. Pete. The $25 million development will include bike parking on site, but no traditional parking lot or garage. Changes to the City’s land development regulations and comprehensive plan relaxed the mandatory minimum parking requirements for multifamily developments in an effort to address affordable housing concerns. The project will be granted additional FAR by achieving LEED Gold certification and providing financial support to the City's streetscape improvement program and the Housing Capital Improvements Projects trust fund.
