Neil Sedaka, Brill Building pop icon and hitmaker, dies at 86
Neil Sedaka, the Brooklyn-born singer‑songwriter whose bright melodies powered hits from the late 1950s through the 1970s (including Breaking Up Is Hard to Do and Laughter in the Rain), died at 86. A key figure of the Brill Building era who teamed with Howard Greenfield, Sedaka enjoyed a late‑career resurgence and helped propel Love Will Keep Us Together to chart‑topper status via the Captain & Tennille, while continuing to perform dozens of shows into his 80s.
