"Accused Killer of Greensboro Officer Appears in Court; Blue Alert Explained"
In Greensboro, N.C., 18-year-old Jamere Justice Foster faced a judge for the first time since being charged with the felony first-degree murder of Greensboro Police Department Sgt. Dale Nix, who was killed during an attempted larceny at a Sheetz store. Foster, along with John Walter Morrison and Zquriah Lepearce Blackwell, who are charged with accessory after the fact, appeared in court where significant police presence and community leaders, including the mayor, were in attendance. The judge deemed Foster a danger to the community, and a future hearing will determine if the death penalty will be pursued. The community and state officials have expressed deep condolences and support for the police department, with Governor Roy Cooper and other politicians speaking out. A fundraiser in honor of Sgt. Nix has raised over $18,000 for his family.
