Israel's Seawater Floods Target Hamas Tunnels in Gaza
Israel has constructed large seawater pumps near the Gaza Strip that could be used to flood the Hamas tunnels, according to U.S. officials. Each pump is capable of drawing water from the Mediterranean Sea and can flood the tunnels within weeks. However, it is unclear whether Israel will proceed with the plan while there are still hostages, including Americans, held by Hamas. Israel has identified about 800 tunnels beneath Gaza, but believes the network is much larger. The flooding plan would allow Hamas terrorists and potentially hostages to move out, but its effectiveness is uncertain. Israel has committed to continuing its war effort until Hamas is eradicated in Gaza.
