"Former SJSU Sports Medicine Director Sentenced to 2 Years in Prison for Sexual Abuse of Athletes"
Former San Jose State University athletic trainer, Scott Shaw, has been sentenced to two years in federal prison for sexually abusing female athletes under the guise of medical treatment. Shaw pleaded guilty to two counts of deprivation of rights under color of law and admitted to violating the civil rights of four students by touching their breasts and buttocks without consent or a legitimate medical purpose. He must also serve one year of supervised release, pay a $15,000 fine, and restitution. The crimes occurred between 2017 and 2020. Shaw had previously been cleared of similar allegations in 2010, but the recent allegations led to resignations, legal settlements, and a review of the university's handling of the case.
