LAUSD workers to strike for equitable wages and shut down schools.
Over 1,000 schools in Los Angeles will be closed on Tuesday due to a three-day strike by 30,000 school workers, including cafeteria workers, custodians, and bus drivers, over "unfair labor practices." The Los Angeles Unified School District's teachers are not directly involved in the dispute, but United Teachers Los Angeles has said they will honor the strike and not cross the picket line. The Service Employees International Union Local 99 is calling for a 30 percent wage increase and an extra $2 per hour for the lowest-paid school support workers. The LAUSD had offered workers a "historic" increase that adds up to more than 20 percent over a multiyear period, as well as a 3 percent bonus.
