Ryuji Kimura, the suspect believed to be responsible for the attempted assassination of Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida in April, has been indicted on charges of attempted murder. Kimura allegedly threw a homemade pipe bomb at Kishida while he was campaigning in Wakayama, injuring two people. The attack was carried out by a lone attacker and came a year after the assassination of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. Kimura, who wanted to be a politician but was blocked from running, is mentally fit for trial according to a psychiatric evaluation.
