Russian Airstrikes Intensify as Aleppo Conflict Escalates
Abu Mohammad al-Julani, the leader of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), may have been killed in a Russian airstrike, according to reports from Arab media. HTS, a US-designated terror group, recently led an attack capturing significant parts of Aleppo from the Assad regime. The Russian defense ministry confirmed conducting airstrikes on Syrian rebels in support of the Syrian army, targeting militant positions in Aleppo and Idlib. Al-Julani has been a key figure in HTS since its formation in 2017, attempting to portray the group as non-threatening to the West.
