Jazz legends, safety, and scholarships: Highlights from the Rochester and Twin Cities jazz festivals.

The 20th anniversary of the CGI Rochester International Jazz Festival began on Friday with jazz guitar legend Pat Metheny and award-winning jazz vocalist Gabrielle Cavassa. The festival features 300 acts across 19 venues, with over 100 free shows, including headliners at Parcel 5. Local sponsors stepped up to support the festival after the government was unable to provide funding due to COVID. The festival is an opportunity to celebrate diversity and draw residents and musicians from near and far. Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue will close out the festival with a free show at Parcel 5.
