Animal Shelters Close Due to Canine Flu Outbreaks
Richmond Animal Care and Control will be closed for two weeks after a dog tested positive for Canine Flu and many others are symptomatic. The shelter will only accept animal bites and cruelty cases during this time and will not pick up any stray dogs. All animals currently in the shelter will remain there for observation and treatment if necessary. The strain of Canine Flu present in the shelter can also be contagious to cats. Canine Flu can cause cough, runny nose, fever, lethargy, eye discharge, and reduced appetite in dogs.
