Ilia Malinin, the 18-year-old figure skating phenomenon, defended his Skate America title with a personal-best score of 310.47 points, becoming the first person to break the 300-point barrier. He performed four quad jumps in his routine and received a higher score than his previous best. Malinin expressed his excitement and surprise at his performance, stating that he was ready to fight for everything. He chose not to attempt the quadruple axel and was followed by Kevin Aymoz of France and Shun Sato of Japan, who won silver and bronze respectively.
