New York may no longer require high school students to take Regents exams for graduation, as an advisory group formed by the state's Education Department is set to recommend alternative options for students to demonstrate mastery of material. While students can still choose to take the exams, they would also have the opportunity to showcase proficiency through capstone projects, presentations, or performance-based assessments. The move is part of a broader effort to rethink high-stakes exit exams and address concerns that such mandates disproportionately affect disadvantaged students.
