Saudi Arabia and Iran Take Steps Towards Restored Relations
Saudi Arabia has initiated preliminary steps towards a "long-term cooperation agreement" with Iran, according to Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian. The document, once completed, will be signed by high-ranking officials from both countries. This development marks a significant milestone in the relations between Saudi Arabia and Iran, which were severed in 2016. The two sides reached a reconciliation deal earlier this year and appointed new ambassadors. During his visit, Amir-Abdollahian met with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, with a focus on bilateral issues. The Saudi authorities expressed a "new attitude" and readiness to open a new chapter in relations. Additionally, Saudi Arabia's crown prince has accepted an invitation to visit Iran in the future.
