BRPD Officer Arrested for Fatal Crash on Government Street

A Baton Rouge police officer, Sharmaine Buckley, has been arrested and charged with negligent homicide, two counts of negligent injuring, reckless operation of a vehicle, and emergency vehicles; exceptions, after being involved in a deadly crash while driving nearly 80 mph. The crash occurred when Buckley ran a traffic signal in her marked patrol car and collided with the back of a Chevrolet Impala, resulting in the death of the Impala's driver. The crash also caused a chain reaction involving six additional vehicles. Buckley, a two-year veteran of the Baton Rouge Police Department, has been placed on administrative leave.
